Born in Seoul, Korea in 1969, I immigrated to the United States when I was 8 years old. I landed in Dallas, Texas and started my journey of becoming a doctor. After high school, I attended Baylor University and graduated with a BA in biology. I went on to the University of Texas medical school in San Antonio and chose family medicine as my specialty. I completed my residency at John Peter Smith Family Medicine Residency Program and became a board certified family physician.
I chose family medicine as my specialty for many reasons. I enjoy the relationship that family physicians develop with their patients. Understanding and getting to know the patient as a person is very important. I strongly believe every patient deserves a competent doctor who is able to treat multiple and complex problems that a patient might have. Also, I am attracted to the diversity of family medicine. I am interested in bringing a new life into this world as well as helping a patient in their last days who has a terminal illness. I sum up family medicine as a specialty that is pediatric, ob/gyn, internal medicine, and geriatrics all combined into one.
On a personal note, I enjoy many aspects of life that correlates to the personality of a family physician. I am active in outdoor activities such as camping and hiking and enjoy sports like skiing, golfing and volleyball. I also enjoy listening to music as well as playing my guitar. I am active in the Asian community and love bringing awareness of my culture and founded Korean American Health Professional Association. I am also involved at my church and serve as the youth director and led a medical mission team to Venezuela. I am a volunteer medical ski patrol and also volunteer my time at a free walk in clinic through Hopelink. Lastly, I am hoping to incorporate the latest medical technology and streamline the deliveryof medicine to my patients.
